Bonnie L. Whorton - November 27, 2001

Lifelong Aberdonian Bonnie Lou Whorton, 57, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at her Central Park home.

Mrs. Whorton was born Aug. 25, 1944, in Aberdeen to Howard and Ethel (Rigg) Aho. She graduated from Aberdeen's Weatherwax High School in 1962, then attended Grays Harbor College. In the early 1960s, she worked at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Aberdeen, where she met Neal N. Whorton. They were married May 22, 1964. He survives her at the family home.

The couple celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in Washington, D.C., and renewed their vows in a traditional Indian ceremony at Reno, Nev., for their 35th. The Whortons started Sideline Auto Wrecking in Aberdeen, and Mrs. Whorton was the full-time bookkeeper until her death. In the 1980s, they began traveling to Hawaii with family and friends. In the 1990s, they traveled through Mexico a number of times, including one with Mrs. Whorton's dog, Barney. The last few years, she enjoyed taking trips with her daughter, Natalie Docsanes of Aberdeen, and her grandson. Her last trip was to Cuba with her husband, daughter and grandson.

The couple owned a summer home on Lost Lake for 20 years, and Mrs. Whorton enjoyed times there with her family and friends. She also liked working in her garden, doing crossword puzzles and playing pinochle.

Besides her husband and daughter, she is survived by two sons, Nathan of Aberdeen and Noel of Seattle; her father of Aberdeen; two sisters, Iris Zieman of Shelton and Jackie Henry of Aberdeen; a brother, David Aho of Seattle, and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be until 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 30, at the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
A graveside service is set for 1 p.m. Friday in Hoquiam's Sunset Memorial Park. Donations in her memory are suggested to Camp Bishop, in care of Robert Pocklington, YMCA of Grays Harbor, 2500 Simpson Ave., Hoquiam, 98550.
